Attention please!
- Roald Helgheim, Dagsavisen
FriEnsemblet’s first album “Holding Balance” was recorded in Rainbow Studio 2004, just before the studio moved to a new location. It therefore became one of the last recordings made in the famous “old” Rainbow studio period.
Holding Balance is an exploration of the conceptual world of Modern Big Band Jazz. The listener is given a glimpse into Grooss Viddal’s tonal world; a blend of free-improvisation, humour and strict composition. The recording was made by Chateau Neuf Fri Ensemble (later named FriEnsemblet), a group born of the Big Band at the University of Oslo Department of Musicology.
